A little reminder . . .
For those interested, I would like to once again point you to my blog: http://www.jadettman.com/deconstructinginfinity. I do this for a number of reasons. First, I don't seem to like posting on LiveJournal nearly as much as I like using my Wordpress. Second, I am too damn lazy to cross-post all my Wordpress entries to LJ (also, feedwordpress seems wonky and doesn't like me). Third, I originally got an LJ account so that I could post comments on the LJs of others. Oh, there was more! If you're interested though, go to my blog. | | Friday, October 19th, 2007 | | 5:38 pm |
Irregular Update This one is for the LJ readers:Well, I've finally installed FeedWordpress on my Wordpress blog so know it should grab anything that I post here. That way I don't need to post things twice, which I've mostly been too lazy to do recently. For those of you not in the know, I've been upgraded to full-time 'Supervisor' at the bookstore. It's pretty nice, especially no longer spending time looking for a new job. It mostly involves doing what I was doing before, now with a few extra requirements. It keeps me busy. On the gaming front, Britt and I have found a group of gamers that we're playing D&D with in Rockford. The schedule is a bit irregular but we shoot for every-other week. Mostly it's been good. In other gaming news, I'm looking forward to Rockcon the first week in Novemeber and (in the more distant future) my triumphant return to Gammacon in February of next year. (I'm not exactly sure why my Gammacon return will be triumphant, but it sounded good, right?) The new house is treating us well and we're (mostly) moved in. The exception is, of course, my office, which still has unpacked boxes cluttering up the place. We had some repairs done to the chimney in the hope of staving off repairs to the roof for the (far distant) future. And we've got some rugs and such in to awesome up the place. It's looking good. The Big Update
- Britt and I have successfully purchased a house. We signed the papers last Wednesday and officially finished moving in last Monday. It's a good thing.
- In the process of moving, we decided not to get cable television at the new house. As serious couch-potatoes, I see this as a big step for us.
- In the course of the last two weeks I have read four books, including Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows which I finished last night. It's a good book and I would recommend it along with Blink by Malcolm Gladwell. I would not recommend The Cult of the Amateur. If I feel the urge, longer reviews of these books may be forthcoming.
- In addition to increasing my reading, the move has also emphasized just how little I really missed the internet. Oh, there were a few things I missed but not many. I think that I'm going to continue this disengagement for a little while to see what the impact will be. I will still be checking my email and working on new gaming projects but I think I'll be visiting fewer forums and blogs. I don't know how long it will last.
- Finally, I seem to have had an urge to blog. Whether this will continue, I don't know. For a while I had considered just deleting my blog and homepage because of disuse. I still may do that. I guess you'll find out when I do.

The big purge
I just removed about 75% of the friends on my LJ Friends list. If you used to be my mutual friend but aren't anymore, you shouldn't take it personally. I've been thinking recently about the number of people that I keep track of that I only 'know' because someone else I know has mentioned them or because they play Amber or design RPGs. I decided to keep friends that I have either met in person or actually interacted with in-person or online. Really it comes down to the fact that I'm really a lurker online. I don't really engage with people online unless I know them in some other way. So, keeping track of all those people that I didn't really know made me feel a little to weirdly voyeuristic. That said, if you're still on my LJ Friends list and you would rather not be, please drop me a comment to that effect. I promise, I won't take it personally. | | Thursday, June 7th, 2007 | | 8:15 am |
Stressed and out of sorts
Lately, I’ve been lacking in creative energy. For those who aren’t aware, Britt and I are in the process of buying a house. The plan is to close on the house and move in before the fall semester begins at Beloit College. So far, things are looking iffy and it has caused a fair amount of stress in our lives. Coupled with the house-hunting and -negotiating, I’ve been continuing my search for a full-time job. Ideally, I’m trying to find something in Beloit to avoid buying a second car (an expense we certainly don’t need especially with the new house). Needless to say, it isn’t going well. Perhaps I’m not applying for the right jobs or there are just too many qualified candidates that I’m competing against but, whatever the reason, my lack of prospects have only added to my stress and creative drain. Adding to the creative drain, I feel, is the general lack of social gaming. When I was running my Amber game every Sunday in Ithaca, I felt like sessions gave me a creative boost of energy each week, rubbing my brain against the brains of five other people creating a fun and energizing creative charge. Without that, my creative batteries are feeling a little dead. The unnamed Amber PBEM that I’ve been ‘running’ has fallen victim to this. The format just doesn’t have the same immediacy or energy that a FtF game has and I feel like the game is draining more of my creative energy rather than recharging it. It doesn’t help that everyone involved in the game is busy. Britt and I are buying a house, I’m looking for a full-time job, Britt is attending conferences and preparing for the fall semester, Camille just bought a new house, Shawn is buying or has bought a new house recently, Dan is getting married and finishing up his Ph.D., and JP is an all-around busy manager-dude. Am I just looking for an excuse to let the game die? Maybe. Back on topic, I’ve connected with several gamers on the internet in the last few months. A couple in town, some in Rockford, many in Madison. I really want to get out there and game but the house and job-hunting are taking up a significant amount of time. That and driving 45 minutes to an hour to play in a game isn’t grabbing me just yet. Maybe when life settles down a little, I’ll be happier to make that drive but that time isn’t here yet. | | Sunday, April 8th, 2007 | | 8:15 am |

A Crazy Idea?
I've been reading Wikinomics by Don Tapscott and Anthony D. Williams. The authors argue that the growing collaboration of individuals on the internet will sweep the world with a change greater than the industrial revolution. ( There is more ) | | Saturday, May 20th, 2006 | | 8:45 am |
